A ground-floor introduction to SQL Server security. We’ll focus on some quick steps you can do to start securing your SQL Server instances today. It doesn’t matter if you are creating a new instance of have several in place already, understanding the basics of security is one of the building blocks to a successful carreer as a DBA.
Bio: Kyle Mullen has been working with SQL Server for over 10 years starting out with operational reporting and later transitioning to administration. He is currently the Database Administrator for AAA Colorado. When not tooling around with SQL Server, Kyle can likely be found spending time with his wife of 17 years and their twin sons or volunteering with his church.
You heard a lot about Azure SQL DW and may even be getting some pressure to move to this new platform; but what makes it so different from Azure SQL Database or even on-premise SQL Server. In this session, we will provide a solid overview of the concepts that make Azure SQL Data Warehouse different from other versions. We will also look a bit at common migration challenges and how to overcome that as well as explore and debunk some basic myths about Azure SQL DW. Attend this dynamic session to ensure that your Azure SQL Data Warehouse has a fairy tale ending and you aren’t left with a Data Warehouse pumpkin on your hands.
Bio: Jason Horner is a Microsoft Certified Master of SQL Server and has worked with it for more than 10 years. He began work as a DBA/Application Developer in 1999. He made the transition to delivering BI solutions in 2002 and began working with spatial data in 2008. Jason’s latest focus has been architecting large-scale spatially enabled BI solutions.
