SQL Monitoring

We all know it’s a good idea to monitor our SQL Server estate.  But, what does that really mean? What is monitoring and what are the tools available?  Peter Daniels takes us on a light dive into the world of SQL Server monitoring. We’ll look at what monitoring is, how it overlaps with other concepts like health checks, and briefly look at the stock, open-source/freeware, and commercial tools available.

By Peter Daniels

Peter Daniels has enjoyed working with the MS Data Platform for over 20 years, primarily as Architect and DBA.  He’s been on both sides of the DevOps fence as both development and operational DBA. He’s also spent some time in the software development arena.  A member of the Denver SQL Users Group for the last few years, he is now also a board member – VP of Events. Having enjoyed the benefit of learning from other presenters and bloggers over the years, his heart is leading him to give back to this wonderful #sqlfamily community.

Main Presentation:
Data Vault Ensemble Modeling – Making Data Warehouses Cool Again

There is much more to life than 3rd normal form and dimensional modeling. Come explore how you can build a data warehouse solution or hybrid solution that is agile in nature with Data Vault. Discover this highly audit-able modeling technique used in international banking, manufacturing, insurance and many more industries. Made a mistake? No worries, own your model. Design changes happen and it can be addressed quickly avoiding pain and project delays and ultimately keeping your business happy. Let us bust the myth that data warehouses take too long to build and are too hard to modify by adding value to your environment and decreasing delivery time.
